My project involves implementation of a lake-river system model in CRCM5. Coupling of river and lake models is necessary to take into account the damping effect of lakes on streamflows and similarly to take into account river inflows and outflows from lakes to adequately model lake levels. The lake model that is being considered is that of Hostetler (Hostetler et al., 1993) and the river routing model is a modified version of WATROUTE (Soulis et al., 2000). The developed system will be applied to both current and future simulations to study changes in lake levels and streamflows. Upon completing this part, additional processes (heat transfer, river-ice etc.) will be considered.
